Jory W. Berkley

Jory William Berkley passed away on January 18, 2023, at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, surrounded by his loving family. He was 41 years old. Jory was born on March 23, 1981, in Tucson, Arizona. His family moved to Fredonia the following year. He graduated from Fredonia High School in 1999 and then attended Pratt Institute. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in illustration in 2003. For several years Jory worked as a touring puppeteer with the Westfield company Das Puppenspiel. More recently, he worked as a woodworker for Jeff Davis Construction in Fredonia. Jory was an avid gamer and comic book collector and an unapologetic fan of Star Trek, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Nine Inch Nails. He drew constantly, creating paintings, papier mache masks, and wood carvings often as gifts for friends and family. In March of 2022, Jory was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. He bravely went through treatments with unmatched optimism. Jory touched the lives of everyone he met. Jory is survived by his mother and father, Mira and Jack Berkley, his brother and sister-in-law, Alex Berkley and Kayleigh Small, his nephew and niece, Clem and Polly Berkley and his grandmother, Lenore Tetkowski. He is survived by loving cousins, aunts, uncles, and an amazing and loving network of friends. A Celebration of Jory's life will be planned to take place in the summer.
