Bruce Werner

Bruce Werner October 26, 1949 - July 9, 2024 On September 4, 1989, I met my twin soul, my husband, and my best friend, Bruce. For nearly 35 years we were bound together, facing life head -on, embracing its joys and challenges. Bruce proposed to me on Mt. Shasta and hand - in - hand we traveled through Europe, Mexico, and the USA, savoring incredible adventures. All along the way, Bruce crushed language and cultural barriers, charming strangers with his wide- open heart. If he could have eaten notes, Bruce would have never needed food. He was a master guitarist who was content to remain in the background, letting the music that flowed from his fingers take center stage. He was a unicorn. With extraordinary grace, courage, and optimism, he waged a valiant battle against liver cancer for 10 years, mystifying his doctors, who not only helped him live, but thrive. Special thanks to Dr. Anthony Martinez, Director of "La Bodega" Center for Hepatology Care at ECMC and Dr. Renuka Iyer, Co-Director of Liver and Pancreas Tumor Center at Roswell Park. Bruce promised that when he got to heaven, he would take special care of those of us who remain on earth; his wife Mary Gin Starkweather and his Philadelphia family, sisters Nancy Boland and Marjory Werner, brothers, David and Alan, nieces Lacey Birchard and Cassie Boland, nephew Evan Werner and two grand-nephews, Jude, and Sol Birchard.
